HD Decoder Setup
The DSTV HD decoder (also called HD Single View) is the budget-friendly choice for second bedrooms, rental properties, cottages and B&Bs. It delivers full HD picture on every supported channel — without the PVR features of the Explora. Setup is straightforward when done correctly.
What Usually Causes This Problem
Most cases trace back to one of the following root causes. Our technicians diagnose with a signal meter and the right diagnostic tools on every callout.
Dish line-of-sight to IS-20
Even a non-PVR HD decoder needs the same precise alignment to IS-20 at 68.5° East to lock HD transponders.
Universal LNB sufficient
Unlike the Explora, the HD Single View does not need a smart LNB — a quality universal LNB does the job.
Smart card pairing
Activation requires live pairing of the smart card with MultiChoice. We do this on site during the visit.
HDMI output to TV
HD decoders output 1080i via HDMI. Older TVs without HDMI need a component-cable workaround.
Bouquet selection
HD channels appear on Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family and Access — bouquet determines available channels.
Software updates
Decoder firmware updates over the air. We force a refresh during the install.
