Common Causes

What Usually Causes This Problem

Most cases trace back to one of the following root causes. Our technicians diagnose with a signal meter and the right diagnostic tools on every callout.

Failed backlight strip (LED)

The most common LED-TV fault. You may see a very faint image with a torch held close to the screen — that confirms it.

Power supply board failure

If the power LED does not even light up, the internal power supply is the usual suspect.

HDMI handshake fault

TV powers on normally but stays black when set to HDMI input — HDMI port or chip fault.

Mainboard failure

Rarer but possible. We diagnose using known-good external inputs.

Wrong input selected

Always worth checking first — the TV might just be on the wrong input.

Loose internal connector

Internal ribbons sometimes work loose. Quick to re-seat in the workshop.
