Search for a Cell C check-your-number code and you will find *147# option 8, *101# and *147*100# — three different answers, none of which appears on Cell C's own website. There is a simpler route.
Cell C's official support pages publish balance, airtime-share and customer-care details, but not a number-check code. These methods do not depend on one.
Method 1: Ring another phone
The most reliable option on Cell C. Call any phone with caller ID and read your number off its screen. A single ring is enough — the missed-call log keeps it. If you have no airtime, a missed call still registers.
Method 2: The Cell C App
- Install the Cell C App from Google Play, the App Store or Huawei AppGallery.
- Register or sign in using the SIM you want to identify.
- Your number appears on the account screen, alongside balance, data and airtime sharing.
This is the method we would actually recommend to a Cell C customer, because it also solves the balance question that Cell C's USSD menus handle awkwardly.
Method 3: Your handset's SIM status
| Device | Where to look |
|---|---|
| iPhone | Settings › General › About › SIM / Network entry |
| Samsung | Settings › About phone › Status information › SIM card status |
| Other Android | Settings › About phone › SIM status |
Method 4: Cell C customer care
- 135 — free from a Cell C line
- 084 135 — from any other network, at standard rates
- 147 — quick information line, Cell C lines only
Have your RICA details ready; they will not confirm a number without verifying the line is registered to you.
Cell C codes that are confirmed
| What you want | Code / method |
|---|---|
| Check your balance | *101# — or *147# and choose option 2 |
| Check balance by SMS | SMS bal to 14302 |
| Airtime Share (send airtime) | *147*333*[recipient]*[amount]#, or *147# option 3 |
| Customer care | 135, or 084 135 from another network |
| Quick info line | 147 |
Airtime Share limits (confirmed on Cell C's own page): amounts of R5, R10, R20 or R30, a daily cap of R1,000 and a monthly cap of R10,000. Prepaid and Top Up lines only.
What about Please Call Me on Cell C?
Cell C's callback-style service is branded StarCALL and works differently to a classic Please Call Me text message. Codes circulating on third-party sites for a Cell C "Please Call Me" do not appear on Cell C's own pages, so use StarCALL or the Cell C App rather than relying on them.
The MTN and Vodacom equivalents are published by those networks and documented in full here: Please Call Me on MTN and Please Call Me on Vodacom.
Data balance on Cell C
Cell C does not publish a dedicated data-balance USSD code. Use the Cell C App, or the self-service line on 135. The general balance code *101# is the closest USSD equivalent.
*#06# is not your number
*#06# returns your IMEI — the handset identifier — regardless of which SIM is in the phone. It is not your phone number and not your SIM's ICCID.
RICA in 2026
Enforcement tightened from 1 July 2026, with penalties of up to R5 million or 10 years' imprisonment for non-compliance. An unregistered or incorrectly registered SIM is a problem you want to fix before you need customer care, not during.
